Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Law Enforcement!

About Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is widely recognized as the most effective and practical form of combative martial arts. This is demonstrated by the overwhelming dominance of BJJ practitioners in “no holds barred” competitions throughout the world, including the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) in the United States. BJJ’s focus is on restraint and immobilization. Although strikes and kicks are occasionally brought into play, BJJ’s primary methods consist of applied leverage, superior positioning, effective holds and pins for control, and various joint locks and chokes to lead to the submission, rather than hospitalization (and investigation, I might add), of an opponent or assailant.

BJJ teaches the art of applying various joint locks (arm, wrist, ankle, leg, etc.), chokes, and neck cranks in order to efficiently render the opponent helpless while doing little or no injury.

While the sporting aspect of BJJ involves competitive matches that usually end with a “tap” signifying the surrender of one of the participants when he finds himself in an inescapable situation, BJJ’s self-defense techniques can be applied directly to law enforcement arrest tactics. The “tap” puts an end to combat and avoids any further possible injury.
