Hayward Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is also lead by Sergio Silva in conjunction with the top bjj instructors from Silva Jiu-Jitsu camp.
Derrick Easterling trains, teaches and competes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). He has been training with Team Silva since 2005 and instructing since 2006. His BJJ journey begun at the age of 17. After spending time in a group home for boys Derrick wanted to change his life around. He had played football for a number of years but was always curios about BJJ. Then one day from the encouragement of his mother he stepped through the academy doors and on to the mat. There his life changed forever. After training with team Silva for 3 ½ years he has earned a third degree purple belt and won varies tournaments which include:
April 26th, 2009 2nd Americas Cup BJJ 1st place medal
December 6th, 2008 14th Las Vegas Grapplers Quest 1st place medal
August 26th , 2008 Gracie Open 2nd place medal
March 30th 31st, 2008 Pan American BJJ Champ 3rd place medal
October 20th – 21st, 2007 11th Annual US Open BJJ 3rd place medal
July 28th, 2007 On The Mat BJJ 2nd place medal
March 30th 31st, 2007 Pan American BJJ Champ. 3rd place medal
March 3rd – 4th, 2007 10th Annual Copa Pacifica 1st place medal
In 2006 Derrick was ranked 1st in West Coast Region as a Blue belt Flyweight division (130-139.9) in BJJ
Derrick is multi talented cross training in boxing, wrestling, and Muay Thai. In 2007 he began his Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) career. Having one win (Global Knockout 4) and one loss (Pure Combat Bring the Pain) he is determined to train hard and pursue his dreams. Along with his training and teaching he is working towards his degree in Business and Kinesiology with a focus on sports management and athletic training at Chabot College in Hayward, CA.
David Thompson got his blue belt from Sergio in 2001 in Seattle when Mr.Silva used to teach for Ralph Gracie.David Thompson is a well rounded fighter and has also boxing experience!
